Relationships are Strange

Relationships are strange. The exact same person who you loved dearly can quickly turn into someone you hate. And you have no idea how. As you flip through the photos of two happy people you realize you no longer know either (Cue water works). It happens in a flash and it’s devastating.

There is a lot of hate in the world. Girls hate guys, guys hate girls, families hate each other. Sometimes it’s justified, sometimes it’s not. But when one person you care about thinks you are a psycho and tells you so…you are going to be pretty mad. Rightfully so, too. You put everything into loving this person and the relationship. The thin line between love and hate becomes more evident as the relationship ends.

Trying to calculate how we got here

That flicker of hope appears as you both agree the other is worth fighting for and so you fight. The truth of the matter becomes more apparent as you talk about what went wrong and why. The thought that someone could so suddenly have an opinion so far out of line with yours makes you feel like your head needs to be detached from your neck. Maybe there are tangible issues and maybe they have nothing to do with you. But it feels real enough, it hurts, and everyone can see it from the outside looking in. You’ve long stopped caring about others’ opinions. If you’re going to fight for the relationship, it’s going to take your undivided attention.

The outcome is uncertain. But the question of “Are we going to break up or not?” is only really relevant if the answer is yes. If it’s no you are just fighting to ensure that the answer stays no.

The person who you love will become a stranger again and again throughout the relationship. Sometimes it happens quickly, sometimes it happens slowly. The thing that hurts most though is when you realize how much that doesn’t matter anymore and they finally become one again.

Cliche, I know but we all long for a happy ending with our beloved.

You know it!
